Video Editing Computer

*Partial donations can be made by making a general donation and referring to “Oleksandr” in the comment box.* Oleksandr was a documentary filmmaker and director in his home country Ukraine all his life. His most prized work was his full-length documentary on the tragedy of Chernobyl. Then in his mid 60’s, he along with millions of others was forced to flee.

At the age when others seek retirement after a life well lived, he was forced to start from scratch. Upon entering the US, he immediately began learning English in intensive daily classes and searching for any type of work to live. However, his new reality never dimmed his desire to keep pursuing his true purpose: documentary filmmaking. In fact, he has hours of footage from his latest project that he had to abandon when he fled. But in a brand new country with no language skills, no money, and no connections - seasoned directors are cast aside in lieu of youngsters with strong technical skills and no post-production team will work with a director that can’t pay. Oleksandr hasn’t let this fact get him down and he has a new dream: learning those technical skills, mainly the ability to video edit. That’s where he needs help! As much as Oleksandr is ready to put in the work to learn the necessary skills, he has to have the necessary tools which unfortunately come at a steep price. Even the most basic video editing requires a computer with a powerful processor and will be out of his reach financially. Oleksandr is currently living in Brighton Beach and is attending daily English classes at Riverside School. He has a resettlement case manager through Catholic Charities. He doesn’t let his situation get him down and strives hard to work hard and learn even harder. Please consider helping Oleksandr once more to give his storytelling to the world! Posted 3/3/23.

Smart TV

This gift request will greatly benefit an unaccompanied child with Church World Service (CWS). Our client, Sammy, is a 9-year-old minor who is needing this amazing gift to not only help him bond with his family but also spark his learning in a new country. After leaving his home country for a better life, Sammy is quiet and does not talk as much as he used to.

Sammy is an unaccompanied minor from Honduras, who migrated to the U.S. with his younger brother. He is currently living with his father; however, his mother left the family a long time ago while in his home country due to substance abuse issues. Sammy is a kind, shy, and caring young male who enjoys going to school in the U.S. and spending time with his family. Sammy would like to remain in the U.S. and continue his education. The minor's father is currently working full time however due to the family's recent move and household responsibilities; the sponsor is unable to afford this gift for the minor. This grand gift will support Sammy in boosting his spark for learning, help him learn English, and develop his socialization and learning skills. Posted 3/3/23.
